Family
Hi, I’m Marie—wife, boy mom, and the heart behind Marie Made Simple, where I share smart, stress-free ideas for busy families.
Mahjong tiles are a lot like clothing—everyone has their own style. Some people love classic and traditional, while others gravitate toward colorful, playful, or modern designs. The good news? You don’t have to spend hundreds (or thousands 😅) of dollars to find a cute, functional set that you love.
Whether you’re just getting started or looking to add a second (or third!) set to your collection, here are some of my favorite places to find mahjong tiles that are stylish, practical, and budget-friendly.
Amazon is a great place to start because there are so many options at different price points. You can find everything from beginner sets to more polished looks.

What to look for:
If you keep those things in mind, Amazon can be a fantastic, affordable option. I’ve put together a list of my favorite sets on my Amazon storefront. You can find them HERE.
Amahj Line is a favorite of mine if you’re looking for something that feels a little elevated without the engraved-tile price tag. They offer stamped tiles, which are less expensive but still beautiful and very playable.
I personally own and love their travel set—it’s perfect for mahjong on the go or smaller spaces.

If you want a complete, ready-to-play setup, Sam’s Club has an excellent option for around $150. Their set includes:
It’s a great value if you’re starting from scratch or want everything bundled together. I’ve played with this set before the tiles are really nice. The mat isn’t as smooth as ones I’ve played on, but you could easily replace that.
Currently, Sam’s Club sells the Deluxe Acrylic Mahjong Starter Kit and the Deluxe Acrylic Lunar New Year Mahjong Starter Kit (pictured above)
Hobby Lobby is such a hidden gem for mahjong! They typically carry two different tile sets for around $20, which is amazing for beginners or casual players.
They also sell mahjong racks, which makes it easy to build your setup piece by piece without spending a fortune. A note about the racks-I have them and while they work, they are on the flimsy side.
If you’re looking to introduce mahjong to kids, I recommend Mini Mahjer. These sets are perfect for little hands and are such a great way to get kids familiar with the game in a low-pressure, playful way. The tiles are plastic, so not too heavy for little hands! They come in a little bag, which makes it a perfect option for a travel set as well!
Mini Mahjer makes mahjong feel approachable, fun, and not intimidating—exactly how it should be. They’re also adorable, which is always a win in my book.
At the end of the day, the best mahjong tiles are the ones that make you excited to sit down and play. You don’t need the fanciest set out there—just something that fits your style, your budget, and your season of life. 💗
If you ever want help choosing a set or figuring out what works best for you, I’m always happy to help!
